I'd be wary of putting too much reliance on any Enneagram test. I've taken several different tests on this site and others over the last several months. On about 80% of the test I scored highest on Type 5 and about 20% percent of the test I scored highest on Type 9. I have been assuming that I was Type 5 because of how I tested, and also because a superficial reading of the type description did seem to fit me. But as I've come to know more about the Enneagram I am starting to believe that I am a Type 9 rather than a Type 5. The best way to figure out your friends Enneagram type is to study more about the Enneagram. Riso and Hudson's "Understanding the Enneagram" has a good section titled "Misidentifications". In it they compare each of the nine types to each other and describe some reasons what the types are confused with one another and how to tell them apart. The part comparing Type 9 & Type 5 was a great help to me.

: My friend took the Enneagram test at the back of Richard Rohr & Andreas Ebert's book, Experiencing the Enneagram. It was surprising to me that she had FIVE scoures between 74 and 80 points. One thing I noticed was that many of her answers were either "0" (Completely disagree) OR "6", )Completely agree.) When I went over the test with her, I explained the idea of gradiations, or "on the scale of...
: She understood, however, after going through the first couple of questions again out loud, she still answered in the same black or white, either or manner. After talling her scores, she is either a 1, 2, 5, 6, or 9!!! One thought is perhaps this all or nothing way of thinking is indicatitive of a specific Enneagram number! HELP! If anyone has insight into this, please let me know.
: Meanwhile, I will have her look at the Enneagram test offered on this site.
: Thanks. Jeanne from Md.
