I took a Bone Mineral Density Test and my results were -1.4, which means very low bone density. I have osteopenia, which is the early stage of osteoporosis, and the bone density mass of avg 70 yr old woman. I can choose to either feel depressed and low because of it, or recognize the past is the past, there is nothing to reverse it, however, I can at least start working on preventing further loss right now. I've decided to focus on the latter.
This means new life changes. I have to start lifting weights around the hip, veterbrate and wrists to build muscle to protect where brittle bones are most likely to break. I have always put this off, because I feel uncomfortable and intimidated when the opposite gender look at me. But I decided to move forward, get creative, and find a way to go. So I came up with idea of finding a club for women only. I am happy because I found one, and bought 6-mo membership.
The second action is to figure out the best way to increase calcium and Vit D. Trouble is, all this info about Calcium absorption, such as citrate vs. carbonate (I've decided to split it in half and just do both, cause I still don't know which is better absorbed), oxylate and phytic acid, found in many foods and drinks, stops absorption of CAL. This means I have to be careful of what I intake. It's hard learning and trying to remember what to avoid and what to take. I'm still trying to figure it all out. Because some elements decrease others, and so on. I am going to check out mineral water. Also will increase o.j. and milk drinks.
It is hard to not be sad about this. But either way, I must continue to concentrate on focusing all efforts to take positive action and move forward in the right direction.
