i do this, but i do it on purpose, i noticed. if someone has a voice that i like, something distinctive and proud, i'll swallow it up in my mental dialogues. sometimes i have conversations in my head with myself discussing something from multiple viewpoints, and i'll assign a different voice to different points of view. i'm definitely more audio than visual in my thinking, but a lot of the time, it's not even audio, just arranging concepts. the wierd thing is about that, when i'm writing music, i don't think about how it'll sound, not at all. i just think of the way i want it to feel, and the mathematical structures that will produce that feeling, whether it's melody or chords i'm working on. i think that's why i have sucha problem writing lyrics usually, cause the transition from feelings to music is easier than the transition from feelings to words, since the words need to be reinterpreted in a language, and the pure abstract nature of music kinda takes out the middleman.
