I suspect that acceptable objective feedback (mirroring) is called for.
This means that "someone " has to listen, interpret, feedback and appropriately challenge the "point of view," "mindset" in a non-confrontational way. We are asking for a lot there. Ideally, one's parents would do this in adolescence by gently providing (pushing) alternative approaches to life. In adulthood this usually requires a
specialized therapist who has insight into the 9 strategy. Many 9s like
and benefit from non-listening therapies. Examples might include music,
dance, art. Often these therapies are targeted for adolescents working
through trauma. Authentic emotion is experienced in supportive environments. For example, abused children often have difficulty with
vaild affect. They "learn" "real" feelings in a safe therapeutic environment. 9s are not necessarily abused, but the dynamics can be similar; "Self" may have not emerged (albeit for different reasons.)
Trust is an issue. One wants to avoid victimization. So, I suggest
starting with a Psychiatrist. Ask for a diagnosis and a referral to
a music, dance, art therapist. If Health Insurance is an issue, make an
important decision. Do I want to change to the extent that I will pay for
the work? We are talking about $70/hour for 10-12 sessions in metropolitan
areas. This is like a weight loss clinic. They help you see your dynamic.
What you accomplish is up to you. (That is the really, really good part.)
Happy trails! (Avoid more than a few "talk" sesions; they are for other types.)
