Greetings Sarah et al :)
Firstly, let me state that I am a practicing Catholic. Secondly, let me state that I agree with Absolutely everything you have said here - but I would go one step further...
Certainly, I believe wholeheartedly that those who abuse anyone, but most especially children, need to be weeded out from the ranks of the priesthood and dealt with as nothing other than the criminals that they are. To do anything else is both unjust and immoral. It is a violation of trust in those very ones we are encouraged to trust the most. Once that is out of the road, the church needs to concentrate all available resources and effort into providing whatever is needed by the victims of these crimes.
This issue has nothing to do with celibacy. All sexual abuse (or any other kind of abuse for that matter) is about only one thing: power and control - and my church has a great deal to answer for when it comes to this very issue, but that's a whole other discussion.
You are rightly outraged Sarah, as are millions of catholics around the world.
One final word....
Interesting that Pope John Paul II (my guess is that he's a One to the bone) is suffering from Parkinson's Disease. When I heard this I looked up PD in my Louise Hay book and guess what it said....
(and I quote)"Parkinson's Disease: Fear and an intense desire to control everything and everyone." (end quote) Yep, I thought, that sounds about right to me!

: im sure we've all heard about this whole catholic sex crime scandle thing happening, right?
: without kicking open a door to personal attacks, what does everyone think about all this?
: i personally am confused. theres been reports of all these priests who are known serial child abusers and rapists. so all the head catholic big boys got together over seas to discuss how to handle the whole fiasco. the major question being, "should priests be allowed to practice if they molest children, even if they only do it once?"
: what the hell is going on? at what point did priests become immune to JAIL? why aren't the accused being prosecuted? afterall, they have been accused of a CRIME? have they even been arrested?
: and further more, the catholic church has, for several years, concealed evidence of countless child abuse cases. isn't that conspiracy? why are we allowing conspiritors to leave the country? i could have sworn the USA set up a justice system so that when we know who the bad guys are, we can catch them and not let them go. sure they're holy and all, but they are still human and they broke the law.
: i guess my question is: if we went to all that trouble to make laws against child abuse, why aren't these cases being dealt with legally?
: oh this has to be annagramical huh? ok um, enneagramically, what type do you think the pope is?
: sarah.
