I find this ruling extremely unfair-or should I say TO fair... If schoolteachers guilty of a sex crime they will never and should never teach again. They also face American laws, possibly jail time. So why is it that a priest guilty of a sex crime can remain in the church as someone whom we are supposed to trust our faith with and even more our children with. It is wrong of American policy to allow this. It is also wrong to allow the church to take sanctions into their own hands. They are an institution, and as such they be included in the ALL laws of America. Because the church is of a religious nature, that should not grant any special treatment to the people involved. One of the great things about being a free country is that we have been able to keep a separate distinction of Politics and Religion. Allowing the church to create its own set of rules goes against this. This is not 14th century Europe, our ministers should not govern, and as such their crimes should be punished outside the church, for the sake of not diminishing the reputation of religious leaders, and for the sake of preventing future crimes against people close to us.
