Is _Donnie Darko_ among the current "Americans-are-stupid" movies? An "Americans-are-stupid" movie is one that supposedly proves, by virtue of its lack of popularity in America, that Americans are stupid. It goes without saying that such a movie is considered by the America-bashing crowd (usually Americans themselves - intellectual expatriates?) to have some special merit that appeals to the sensible and cultured mind (thus leaving said Americans with empty, bewildered looks on their faces, of course).
The ultimate "Americans-are-stupid" movie is probably _Memento_, which tells its story backwards in order to let the first-time viewer somewhat share the mindframe of the protagonist, who has lost the ability to form new memories. I can almost see myself watching it again some year, but it won't make me forget _Spider-Man_ (which isn't saying much, really).
