> Imagine -- when I was younger, I thought all of those nice men in suits at work were talking to me because they found me intelligent and resourceful! As a 41-yr-old in a committed relationship with 2 children, I refuse to starve myself to death and dress like a harlot (albeit a high-class one) just to get some recognition at work. If that ends me up on the corporate scrap heap, OH WELL.

### Yes, you have to be true to your principles. I do exactly the same. It is depressing when you realise the superficiality of what is recognised. The few women that have made it to the corporate top in Australia are often subjected to media so called "make overs" where they get a photo and then glamorise it with a new hairdo and makeup as a bit of a story line grab about the person (especially if looks are not their first priority and they are looking a little drab). Sometimes they will even get the woman to dress up herself for photos. The stories completely ignore the policies and achievements the women have made. It will not be until people don't even think of gender but of the person first and foremost will equality really be achieved. Having said that, I'm talking about the business world not of the social world where life would indeed be dull if the gender differences were not accentuated. It seems we, and especialy men, are not able to separate the two - perhaps its the testosterone levels or the fact that that the media does little to emphasize that women are people and not harlots or goddesses to put on pedestals.

But Raz, keep pluggin on - somewhere in the system, there are people who do recognise talent - its just that they are few and far between.
