I am always interested in cultural differences, especially linguistic ones.

Here there was a programme called 'Captain Pugwash', a kids cartoon about a group of rather congenial pirates.

Two of the characters were Seaman Staines and Master Bates.

We also had a programme called 'Rainbow' where a male froglike character called Zippy, regularly went to bed with a pink male hippopotamus type character called George who carried a handbag and wore curlers in bed.
