: : Haha, I'm not into photorealism anyway :)

: Neither am I. Stylistically I’m influenced by German Expressionism and Japanese Prints. My art is becoming very 5ish… ironic, campy, playful, sweet ‘n’ sour. Where it used to be very 4ish and expressive… brooding, depressive, violent, macabre. Strangely the two things are just a step away from each other. And there still is an underlying thread of the former darkness underneath the surface of my new stuff and I’m loving the contrast… the more subtle the better.

: : I have been thinking about something recently:
: : 1. Real subject matter + abstract execution = Interesting
: : 2. Abstract/surreal subject matter + realistic execution = Interesting

: : 1. Monet, Picasso, Bacon
: : 2. Dali, Geiger

: There are two kinds of art… object-oriented art (sensate art) and idea-oriented art (intuitive art). At the extreme ends you have realism (art that is strictly representative of the physical subject) and abstraction (art that has no physical subject). Personally, I think it all depends on what you want to accomplish. Tools for use. No formula for good art.

: Pollack’s paintings are abstract expressionism… they are not really about the end product… but about the process of painting and to some degree the body and person of the artist. Through the 50s and 60s modernism was taken to it’s extreme end… art could almost exist without the object… merely as some idea the artist conceptualized. Ofcourse that meant making all kinds of ‘art’ that no one but the artist could interpret. Guess it needed to be done but I wouldn’t go there myself.

: >>>>>Btw, your technique is excellent. I don't have the patience for that,
: the less I think about what I'm doing, and the less time I take the better.

: Hahahaha… no wonder you don’t have a girlfriend.

Hehe open mouth insert foot. Actually, I am quite good at what you allude to, and I am quite the cunning linguist :). It is the actual (to paraphrase something you said earlier) navigation of the complex social rituals leading up to that point that baffle me.
