Hello Everyone:
Jan and I have often mentioned the Millon depressive subtype, the Voguish Depressive; alias the " existential philosopher ". Early in the 20th century, pyschologists noticed that some depressive had strong traits of the Self-Confident and Dramatic Styles. This disordered subtype glories in pointing out the futility of existence and the meaningness of life! But what about this subtype in the healthy range?

The Idealistic Serious can have a very strong idealism, which is overlayed on a strong desire to see things as they are. In the healthy range, the emphasis is on practicality, common sense, and functionalism. Instead of hopelessness, the Serious style prides itself on how well it can see how things really are and adapt to it ( No matter what your employer says, you can see that it is slowing going down the tubes; its up to you to plan what you must do! ) Its the ability to accept unpleasant facts and deal with them.... Being an Idealistic Serious myself, I would say that life is wonderful, but reality & life can be harsh to those who won't deal with unpleasant conditions! Rich
