> Since characters don't really get much room in LOTR (action based movie); I wonder what you think of my intuitive guesses of the styles, as I posted them on this forum. Could you give us your impression? > J Hello Jan: I think that your guesses are pretty good under the circumstances; and no, nobody can do too well! We should remember several things about movies: 1. in a movie, 1 hour equals about 60 pages of text; even at 3 hours, the Ring movies are just a hint of the book ( maybe 180 pages of text, maybe less. ) 2. Movies being a visual medium, it is by its very nature, very hard to show comlex things like mentak processes, emotions, etc. 3. The only goal of a movie blockbuster, is to make mountains of money! Everything must aid the goal.... This means nothing must be permitted to make the movie, less commerical, less likely to make money! 4. Screen writing is not very important in movies. That means things like character, consistency, logic, etc never stand in the way of advancing the plot ( and making money.... ) That's why, Jan, you, P and I can have honest differences over Sam's styles. At different times in the 2 movies, he seems to being showing at least different part of his total personality; and maybe its just shown to advance the plot.... Your guess seem to be reasonable! I wouldn't even try to type some many characters; its hard enough just to keep them all seperate.... Plus, anybody who really tried typing during the movie, most likely, wouldn't understand the plot afterwards! Rich
