Enneagram Movie Board Archive Citizen Kane analysis / GWTWPosted by Derf on November 23, 1998 at 08:34:06: In Reply to: Re: Gone With the Wind posted by Julie on November 22, 1998 at 22:06:45: Sorry, but it's not much of an analysis - just excerpts of dialogue that are supposed to defend my point of view. But if you want to take a look, it's a few threads down on this board. In a real analysis, you could suggest that Susan Alexander Kane is a 6w7 instead of a 7w6, and that Jed Leland is a 2w1 instead of a 1w2. When Susan says to Kane, "Sure, I'm Charles Foster Kane. Whatever you want, just name it and it's yours. But you gotta love me!", this could be indicative of the 6's style of rebellion. I believe that Kane's mother is a 9w1 - notice that Kane, later in life, marries a 9w1 who, besides sharing an Enneagram point with his mother, looks and talks like her too. Kane, I believe, is a 3w2... "You're concerned with what people will think? Well, let me enlighten you, signor..." And, "I don't propose to have myself made ridiculous." And, to his estranged second wife, who is resentful toward him because he can't show real affection: "Whatever I DO, I DO because I love you." (Emphasis is mine.) When Kane greets his colleagues in the Chicago newspaper office, they're surprised to see him, and attempt to exchange pleasantries, but he's visibly uncomfortable with that, and jumps insistingly into a discussion of the task: "Music notice on the front page? ... Enthusiastic? ..." One rather far-fetched analysis of Jed Leland that points to 2w1 (or 1w2): He seems to enjoy frustrating his doctors' concern about his health - some Enneagram authors have irreverently called this the "Jewish mother" syndrome. I call it 2c8... Knowing that the nurses can hear him, he says to the reporter, "You won't forget about those cigars, now... and wrap them up to look like toothpaste or something, or they'll stop them at the desk. You know that young doctor I was telling you about? Well, he's got an idea that he wants to keep me alive, heh heh." If you would like to discuss any other character in GWTW or Kane, post a message.
