This is a very fundamental question: can the enneagram give useful extra insights into cultures? My opinion is that if we use it for analysing such a complex thing as individual human behavior (all 9 drivers are present but one is the dominant driver) and we find it useful, than we should look at possible applications at socio-political and historical questions. I believe that the essence of a national or organisational culture can often can be adequately identified by using the enneagram. When we take in mind that (of course) not every Frenchman is an E4 we still can say that the icon of the French culture looks very E4-ish: Edith Piaf, Jacques Brel, dramatic positioning in the European Community as 'elitist/unique'; Cartier, Chanel, exclusive wines, unpractical but original fashion styles....it's the E4 aura! Similarly with the Germans: very obedient to authority (Befehl ist Befehl), xenophobic (with agressive historical actions towards the Polish and Russian peoples, Jewish conspiracy), very accurate/reliable etc.: E6 aura. Similarly I think the aura of many business cultures can be enneatyped: birds of a feather flock together and often people are recruited to fit into the culture (and go away when they feel no fit). So: what do YOU think; can the enneagram give useful insights into questions of marketing (customer motivational values), corporate management (changing organisational cultures), socio-economic questions? Because every view on these subjects is already biased by enneatype, seen from a specific individual point of view (POV), I feel the enneagram can be very useful indeed in these new application area's.
Lets look at the cultural aura's of some countries:

E1 - stiff upper lip English culture
E2 - emotion based Italian interactions, proud people
E3 - efficiency and image based USA culture
E4 - France's nostalgia and original refinement
E5 - the isolated Swiss (neutral at WOI and WO II)
E6 - Germany; authoritarian/obedient Prussian personality
E7 - Irish and Brazillian cultures: happy and joking amidst misery (escapism)
E8 - Portugese macho culture
E9 - Belgians: unlimited tolerance, work at their own pace

Any additions or suggested corrections?
