: : I just saw this for the first time yesterday, and I can't believe people consider the leads to be among the most romantic couples of the golden age of cinema. Rubbish - it's a depressing story about an utterly narcissistic 3w2 (the young lady), a fickle, decadent 7w8 named Rhett (the tall, dark stranger), and a couple of 9w1's who can't face the fact that the heroine is scum.
: : Here's how it works: Rhett Butler (7w8) is worldly-wise and willful. He knows that Scarlett O'Hara (3w2) is a heartless, opportunistic brat, but he figures that she needs "to be kissed, often, and by someone who knows how." Of course, he doesn't really assume that she'll change for the better, so, drawn in by her charm, energy, and unattainable freebird quality, he asks her "Have you ever considered marrying for FUN?" He knows that's all he'll be able to get out of her. And, of course, he'll enjoy pushing her buttons. But it will be a jolly ride. Unfortunately, by her negative example, she teaches him that he has a heart, and needs to be cared for. She brings out the worst (or at least the most jealous) thing in him - namely, the heart that he's trying to hide from.
: : The 9w1's are Ashley and Melanie Wilkes, who manage to stay together and convince themselves that everything is peachy, even as Scarlett tries to tear them apart.
: : Well, so ends another "golden age" venture of mine. I figure nobody's seen "Citizen Kane," but I finally decided to post my analysis thereof... just to prove that. :> What will I try next? Casablanca? Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs? Psycho? If anyone here is aware that there were movies made before 1970, and would like to discuss some, give a list of a few.

: Derf,
: I very much enjoyed your analysis and think you are right on the button. I've seen Citizen Kane, several times for a film class. I look forward to reading your analysis.

3w2 for Scarlet sounds good; I KNOW she has much 2; near Borderline; but I thought 1. I appreciate your comments. I am just learning the Enneagram for my own benefit, for business, and for my authoring. Any good ideas for a 3w2, or 3w1 for my 'heroine?'
