Exciled CIA agent Stephen Guerin (played by William L. Petersen) finds himself in a political hotbed when he befriends the old grizzled stranger Cornelius (played by George D. Scott) on the small Dutch island of Curacao. Things heat up when several weapon trading factions (South African secret service, Chinese gang) want to settle an old score with Scott. Exotic female locales and double and triple crosses make this a colorful exiting thriller. The movie characters analysed: - Stephen Guerin: E6 tense, honest protagonist, vigilant, suspiocious and cynical: 'I believe in only a few things...friendship is one' He reminds me of Thomas Magnum. - Cornelius: a gay E2 Jesus like behavior; gives money to strangers who visit his bar, savior of the people in the bank during a violent robbery; wants to sacrifice himself for others, nice, strong ('Lion King')humane and aimable man; looks like Santa Claus, warm, relational, manipulating, Stephen calls him 'a prideful man', courage. - Diana Waterman: E2 seductive woman; wants to manipulate Stephen into a marriage and department to her city, 'I am a proud woman', easily offended when she feels ignored. - Freddy: E5 un-emotonal observer; objective; cold, detached - Dr. Seamuller: E1 South African secret service boss; formal, vain, nasty task machine; an idle E1; mr-Know-It-All; 'a creep' - female Cuban agent: E3 business like, pragmatic approach, self confidence - Hsung: E3 Chinese weapons trader. His body guard is an impulsive agressive E8.
