Perhaps this "paranoid" take on New Wave springs from the Heads' semi-involvement in punk culture, as they shared the same venue as the Ramones and others at CBGB's in New York. Devo is a terrific example of another New Wave band following in the Heads' footsteps. Of course, there's the question "what exactly is New Wave, anyway?" But I suppose that's a matter of interpretation.
