: : Since it's unromantic (and relationally unwise) to make notes when you are watching a movie with your girlfriend; I abstained from it when watching SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE yesterday. I'll make a new posting later on with all the characters analyzed. For now however I would like to get your feedback on two characters: : : a. the stuttering spokesman in purple clothes: E5? (overcoming shyness) : He's just a chap with a stutter. You don't have sufficient information to : give him a type. +++ Perhaps not; but stuttering/stammering is related to shyness; I would think E5 is the closest we can get. Do you think of a better guestimate??? (autism by the way often correlates with speech problems) : : b. the person who helps Will improving the title; changing it into Romeo and Julliet. He looks strong and also helps Will when he is tormented by the thought of having killed Marlowe. E2?
: If that's the chap who plays 'Mercutio,' Three with a strong Four wing. Otherwise I can't identify which character you're referring to. +++ I agree; when he proposes a new title for the play it is because he knows the old one has little marketing effect. Also a spotlight grabber; he makes a poisonous remark when Shakespeare is in the center of attention ('Should I now become the playwright...') : : c. the boss of the competing theatre The Curtain who after the performance gets angry with the E1-ish local official who wants to close it down with soldiers; E1? : Burbage? I shouldn't think so. Eight or Three. ++++ I'll have to revisit the movie; can't remember enough; sorry. (by the way I didn't mean the one whose boots were placed above the fire; that one looked E6-ish) ++++ Now what type is the Queen? She is intimidating and blunt; unmasks; this suggests E8. However she got angry when the lords refused to put their clothes in the mud; a. they refused; I wouldn't refuse an E8 king! b. its an image question; suggests E3. However I would bet on E1 because she likes to correct others behavior; she does the right thing in protecting Will's girlfriend. I don't guess an E8 king would care and her saying what she thinks excludes E3. E1; Deal Dafyd? (by the way I must mention that movie characters so often are distortions of real types that this makes them difficult to type; I think nobody will ever find real life E4's the way they are played in the Shakespeare -and his E4 girlfriend- way!! )
