WUTHERING HEIGHTS (1992 UK version) - Emily Brönte's classic gothic novel on doomed love
It tells the tale of Heathcliff, a foundling Gypsy boy who comes to love Cathy, the spoiled princess-daughter of the house. Their affair, born in childhood, is doomed because of imprisoning social conventions of 18th century England. The problems start when Cathy abandons Heathcliff for the sensitive refined Mr. Linton.
JOSEPH LOCKWOOD - FOBIC E6
Sees ghost of Cathy, nervous, investigative.
HEATHCLIFF - E4
Depressive tormented man, over-sensitive, he doesn't stop mourning: haunted by the past, poetic, self-hate ('I love my murderer, but yours….how can I?') , complaining, believes in 'evil spirits', intensely jealous, 'problem person', his pain causes hate and thereby suffering for others: little birds, Hindley, Linton and of course Cathy.
