...non-American movies which have really affected me:
Diabolique
Jesus of Montreal
Jules et Jim
Two Women
Discreet Charm of Bourgeoisie
That Obscure Object of Desire
Death in Venice
Music Lovers
Crying Game
Chariots of Fire
Ballad of Narayama
3 Colors
Cinema Paradiso
Raise the Red Lantern
Before the Rain
Burnt in the Sun (or something like that, won the Oscar for best foreign movie, Russian)
Central Station
Mexican movie "Chocolate..."
Marcello's movies like Marriage Italian Style
The Umbrellas of Cherbourg
The Last Metro
Picnic at Hanging Rock
So the list goes on...
The point is when you want to choose the top ten or twenty, the American made movies come forward. The Americans can make movies in a wide range- Deer hunter, Godfather, Terminator, Matrix, Fight Club, Pulp Fiction to Contact to Fargo, Dead Poets, Piano...How can you beat that?

: Why do you people think that the only (or about 98%) great movies ever made were in the USA in the last 10-20 years? Does this board take the view that non Americans are untermenschen and do not make films worth considering ? Or dont Americans ever see foreign movies ?
