APOLLO 13 (1995)
The movie characters psychoanalyzed:
E1 - I couldn't find any E1's
Tracy - E2
Seductive girl friend of Paxton; intimate pleaser of 'important men'.
Henry - E3
Nasty paperazzi, focus on money and sensation journalism to make himself famous.
David Andrews plays Pete Conrad - E3?
Spotlight grabber?
Nasa hot shot or politician talking to Jim before the launch - E3-ish
'Why should we have an Apollo 14 now that we've beaten the Russians?' His wife looks E6-ish (practical question; how do you go to the bathroom in space?)
Kevin Bacon plays Jack Swigert - E3?
laidback swinger, eager beaver 'Yes!!' type; 'Don't worry guys, I am on top of it' Womanizer out of 'status' motives? Status conscious; he doesn't want to get the (public) blame.
Bill Paxton plays Fred(do) Haise- E4
On the surface: playing the joker, focus on sexual experience. But during the flight and in crisis we see that he has an underlying focus towards the dark and dangerous; explaining before tv the thickness of the cabin walls (equalling three foils of aluminium paper.) He's called Mr. Know it All by Jim who wants to lighten up the situation (being an E7) Fred vomits and doesn't seem to fit in the Nasa world. He also gets whiny about his unwanted child.
'Kadett' Lovell - E4-ish
'Why me'-aura boy.
Gary Sinese plays Ken Mattingly - E4
Longing for what's not there; 'I wouldn't mind me there out in the night', focus on negative side 'You've used too much fuel', 'Well….I….damn…(sighs)…oh boy…' (sadness, self pity) He's at his best in dark situations.
Ed's assistant - E5
The nerdy guy with glasses, talent for knowledge and insight.
Deke Slayton - E5-ish
Not impressed easily, rational observer.
Marlyn Lovell - E6
Suspicious, alert, worry, fear, a bit childish 'where's my mountain?', 'Why 13?' Panicks when she lost her wedding ring.
Tom Hanks plays Jim Lovell - E7
Joker; playfull hedonistic dreamer; 'this is the last champagne in the city of Houston. His daughter Mary looks E6-ish (obedient/rebellious) his smallest son E4-ish, his elder daughter Barbara: E4-ish; tormented 'problem child'-aura
Ed Harris plays Gene Kranz - E8
Crisis resistant (crisis loving?) boss who determines what's going to happen.
Walter Croncite - E9
Stable like a rock, 'meditative' voice.
Granny - E9
'Narcotized' mind.
