: MERVEILLEUSE ANGELIQUE (1964)

: This romantic historical drama movie depicts the situation in France in the Louis XIV period (around 1661) and is part of a serie of French movies based on the books of Anne and Serge Golon and was very popular in the 1960's. The spirit is also very extrovert E7-ish; like it was in rebellious Paris in 1968; a 'fast' movie with many characters, lots of loud noises and heavily gesticulating people. The protagonist is the actress Michelle Mercier; who must be a real life E2 character; very seductive and beautiful.

: Angelique planned to avenge the execution of her husband Jeoffrey (for reasons of sorcery) but is taken prisoner herself. She escapes and transforms a 'Faulty Towers'-like inn into a place frequented by important people, many amongst them volunteer to protect the lovely Angelique. King Louis XIV gives her permission (she was a marquis) to re-marry.

:
: The movie characters analyzed:

:
: THE MONK the bandits want to burn - E6 character
: Dies of fear, loyal to the king and god, tricky (traitor)

:
: ANGELIQUE - E2 femme fatale character
: Patronizing, seducing beauty, manipulator and sometimes actively dominating (making a nice contrast with the seducing placid humility she usually expresses; repressed own needs!) and strong willed. She's very fond of children. Her 'empathy' causes her to have a wide network of influential helpers. Touches others. Al her lovers die to save her; she's like a human 'Venus Fly Trap'.

:
: NICOLAS (alias CALEMBREDAINE) - E7 character
: Adventurer, 'bandit', political rebel for freedom.

:
: LE GRANDE COESRE - E8 character
: He's a kinda mafia godfather.

:
: Dark haired woman (assistent to Nicolas) - E4 character
: Weird woman, jealousy based hateful remarks, focus on dark side of reality.

:
: THE DWARF BARCAROLLE - E6 character
: Loyal to the group of bandits, obedient, true friend.

:
: Mme BARBE - E6 character
: Loyal assistent, servant of Angelique.

:
: RADAGONE - E3 character
: The egyptian competitor; sleek talker, unreliable because he wants to win the fight with Nicolas. Insensitive because of extreme goal focus.

:
: DESGREZ - mild E3 character
: Calculated ex-lawyer, career-focus, 'thinking in advance' with goal purpose. When Angelique becomes his goal he uses his street smartness and pragmatism to help her. Money/business focus.

:
: PHILIPPE DE PLESSIS - BELLIERES - extreme E3 character
: Impatient bluffer, cant stand it if he can't get what he wants immediately, 'quick'; he whips the horse Angelique is on if it doesn't want to jump (loss of image). 'Designer clothes', subtle defaming of Angelique on her way of dressing.

:
: POLICE CHIEF with moustache - nasty drunken E1 character
: Unsympathetic and cruel. His emotional repression makes relating to women difficult; when he says he doesn't understand women he means that he doesn't understand feelings/emotions. Treats Angelique like she's a 'functional' 6plastic doll. Non adaptable, impersonal, hypocritical.

:
: THE WIND - E7 character
: Lyrical poet, strong erotic imagination and political activist writer for freedom. Denial of danger (over-optimistic) based on need for sensation and over-optimistic mindset.

:
: Monsieur BOURJUS- E6 character
: Panicks easily, worrier.

:
: LOUIS XIV - E8 character
: The real life Louis XIV must have been an E8 (L'etat c'est moi) too. This agressor tries to conquer the Netherlands and other countries.

:
: King's Brother LORRAINE - E4 character
: Pedo killer, exhibitionistic dangerous freak; does strange things to get the attention he longs for but it works out against his interests.

:
: FLIPOT - E9-ish character
: Goes with the flow.

:
: MADEMOISELLE DE LANCLOIS - E7 character
: Hedonistic feast beast; mental escape in enjoyment; which requires that others go with her; (E7's can be very intolerant towards people who don't!)

: That's all. Anybody else has seen this movie? Comments?

: Jan
