It's been a while since I've seen the Graduate so my memory may be off, but I'd type Hoffman's character as a 9. He is unable to make a decision; he is rather passive-aggressive (at the beginning). Even his affair with Anne Bancroft happens more because he has trouble saying no than because he wants to. But when he finally does make a decision he still acts like a nine in that he stubbornly refuses to be dissuaded.

: Anne Bancroft playing the eternally sultry Mrs. Robinson was a total 2. She took advantage of Ben's naivete (too lazy to put the accented letter) and was very manipulative. Also, towards the end she goes to 8, especially when they are both in the car on the rainy day "I ORDER you to not see her again!". She became jealous over Ben's involvement with her daughter.

I agree that Bancroft was the total 2, but I don't think she shifted to 8. 2's can be very vengeful when they feel that what they've given hasn't been fully appreciated.

I agree, that they weren't on long enough to type, but superficially they seem like 3's.

Another 9 perhaps? She almost married a man just because she couldn't say no. And I almost feel that the only reason she ran off with Hoffman at the end was because she couldn't say no.
