In his well regarded book, Neurotic Styles, David Shapiro compares the obsessesive-compulsive and paranoid styles also showing the similarities in their cognitive styles, mostly in their intensity, rigidity, and focus of attention.
As to the failure of Enneagram theorists and writers to agree on the types, I think they're doing it on purpose! How's that for paranoid thinking?
: Interesting that some enneagrammists like Tom Condon type this subtype of the paranoid-(narcissistic) style as E1 character; like he did with the protagonist in the Mosquito Coast movie. Matching E-types and DSM is to do because of lack of a good list of descriptive criteria as the DSM has. Every enneagram author seems to have his own slightly different list in mind.
