Surrealistic visionary movie maker, had a push (conservative) -pull (fantasy) relation with the catholic church. He loved dramatized plots and was a gothic movie maker; 'I've been lucky to be able to live my youth in the middleages'with which he meant: non-materialistic (poor village), rich with bittersweet longing and fantasy. Franco (an E8) did want to see his masterwork Viridana and afterwards ordered: 'burn the tapes! In todays E3-ish Spanish society the old leftists like Bunuel are very much in vogue. How ironic.
