Where did you get this description of the Serious style? You seem to describe Self-Confident characters as "Serious". Oldham's chapter on the Serious style shows a very different person than you describe.
Serious style people are very modest. They are NOT ambitious. They see life as very drab and don't expect much from it. They are hard workers, but they work because it's an obligation, not because they are trying to aim for the stars. They don't compensate for inferiority feelings, if anything, they are very hard on themselves and berate themselves for them.
