I don't think I identify with Clapton but I know I definitely identify with this guy! Really, 90% of this would be a very accurate self-description of me. Of course, I am SO Leisurely, that I could never be a novelist since writing more than one page is a lot of work and I HATE work. This supports my theory that I'm primarily Leisurely style with strong Sensitive and Dramatic/Mercurial support. Oldham's description of Leisurely doesn't describe me as much as what you've described as Leisurely on this board through the analyses of people.

But, what I find the most complex, is trying to differentiate traits. For example, I am pretty much a loner. But is this due to self-consciousness (Sensitive) or I just want to do my own thing (Solitary/Leisurely)? I do not have good appetite control and have a stronge drive for pleasure but is this Leisurely or Dramatic/Mercurial?

Although, the more I self-exam, the more I start seeing as most of my traits being an expression of the core Leisurely style. Let's take dependence. While I prefer being on my own, I haven't moved out yet because I've become attached to my mom doing a lot of work for me (shopping, cleaning, etc.). While superficially, this may appear to be Devoted style, it's actually due to a Leisurely motivation, and since most of my other behaviors/coping styles match with Leisurely, it makes sense to say that it's my core type.

Plus, Leisurely doesn't mix well with any particular Enneagram type (traits of 4, 6, 9, and some 3) which would explain my chronic enneagramic indecision.

: Elias Canetti (1905-1994)

: Novelist Canetti's character seems to have a unique blend of great empathic power combined with periodic outbursts of selfish anger. I would call it 'imaginative semi-empathy'; Canetti enjoyed observing people and dreaming himself into being other people and living the lives of fictional characters (he even could mentally make alive the people on a wall tapestry which he say) and animals. This daydreaming imagination made feel fear and most importantly allowed to write such lucid character caricatures which stick in you mind; like the dwarf who wanted to become world champion chess player. But Elias' empathic imagination didn't lead him to actively help people or assist his mother or do some manual work. So there was that other pole in his character; egocentrism; he wanted to do his own creative thing and be left alone with his book collection; being able to read without being bothered by other people's needs. His mother called him a 'lazy parasite, …vainly looking down/being contemptuous of people who did work'. And the dark side which was mostly hidden sometimes appeared when he was a child; he was clearly a vulcanic character who could periodically react with fierce intensity towards people who frustrated his personal little needs. He once got punished for attacking an elder girl who went to school - which he didn't at that time - but refused his wish to learn reading; he angrily had followed this poor girl with an axe!! (most passive agressive people dare to unload their agressive feelings only towards targets which will not fight back like objects or defenseless people)

: Classification: could be Leisurely Style (Passive - Agressive personality)
