![]() Straight Up (Canadian tv series, 1996-98) - the character of Steve Bachman Steve alternately is a extroverted joker (Jim Carrey style), using his quick mind and wits to escape from a embarassing performance before his classmates at school. Steve is edgy, unpredicatable (the hallmark of the borderline person) rebellious and impulsive and at other times mainly sad; desillusioned, down and angry. He seems like a rebel without much self-confidence; needing his friends to defy the authorities. He feels lonely and confused; 'There is something very wrong, either with me or with the whole world'. He shakes up his friends, acts like a 'liberated' person, impulsively uses drugs and provokes the police at times when its not very clever to do so. His friends feel repelled by these semi-self-destructive traits and throw him out of the car; now his camaraderie suddenly has changed into feelings of hate 'Divide and rule, eh?' Towards a young female tv reporter who asks him 'Do you think this is a overstated expression of intense anger?'about graffity sprayed onto commercial posters for expensive clothes, re-designing the faces into robots, he answers 'I think its UNDER-stated; it depends on the level of your anger' Classification: Mercurial Style/borderline personality Jan
