he struck me as very 9ish, actually. his whole job as a wizard isn't as much being magical as putting the team together to do the job. he's very easygoing and nice, not really nerdy or anything at all. plus, altho wizardry is very 5ish, and ti's tempting to call him a 5, he's the only wizard who likes smoking weed and hanging out with hobbits. but his knowledge and stuff was mostly wisdom, more about keeping the group stable and safe. as soon as gandalf leaves, the fellowship falls apart, people start grating on one another. not your typical 9 ni a lot of ways, but then again, he wasn't your typical wizard, either. soromon, i think, was a 5. gandalf also has a really clear understanding of good and evil, and won't ally with evil, even if it is the only way to win.
i think tolkien was probably a 56.
