: Tolkien’s character Gandalf is an idiosyncratic wizard, alarming in his abrupt transitions between geniality and crankiness. I wonder; could Gandalf reflect’s Tolkien’s own character in some way? Tolkien’s world, the people living there, their names and talk styles are rather ‘different’ and a bit detached, even when compared with Harry Potter’s fantasy world. Tolkien seems to be a ‘thinker’ (rationalist); his fictional worlds don’t offer such things like romantic love or sensitive, lovely, understanding (‘feeling’ in mbti) women.

Hello Everyone:
I see that there seems to be a general agreement that Gandalf has vast knowledge,but at times be a strong leader.Maybe, he also has a strong touch of the Adventurous Style!
