Paul Geldof mentioned in an interview that when Paula Yates left him, he felt that he lost his drive and found himself in ‘a desert of emptiness’, saying that junky Paula was ‘devastatingly beautifull, wild and superiorly intelligent’. Paul told ‘it were five long years of tears, someting on which I couldn’t talk about, I am an easy talker, but on what I felt couldn’t be expressed in words, it were five very long years of crying , that universe of sadness, these seas of loss and that desert of emptiness were so intense that I decayed into a very primitive state of mind. After Paula had left me I felt castrated’.
