Does anyone have any ideas about these characters' enneatypes? I realize
that this is TV rather than movie, so I hope that's not too great a subject
matter transgression. I'm familiar with the terminology of Palmer and
Riso-Hudson, so I'll need some translation if you use categories from other
writers.
Will: 1 with a 9 wing.
key motivation: don't screw up. Must be dressed immaculately, all must be in
order. in one episode bemoans how he gives himself such a hard time about
any mistake. biting (angry?, critical?) sarcasm is the sin of the 4.
Wing: his work as a lawyer involves facilitating discussion , negotiation.

Grace:
4 with a 3 wing.
key motivation: keep it together in this mishugena (yiddish: crazy) world,
and you might as well look good while you're at it.
the type: Grace is always on the verge of nervous collapse. Her feelings are
extreme: from way high to cavernous abyss Her attraction to gay men as
sexual partners could be characterized as a manifestation of the 4s
gravitation to the unattainable: better to bemoan the unavailable than stick
with the shoddy reality of the attainable.
the wing: She's very concerned with how she appears, and does have her own
biz which involves interior decoration, or showing others how to present
themselves to best effect. Hipness is crucial to Grace. She and Will
generate endless streams of postmodern discourse on pop cultural icons.

Jack and Karen
8 with an 7 wing
key motivation: must win the game before someone gets you. conceal
vulnerability with humor and a dazzling surface. keep others from feeling
too secure. indirect manipulation to get what you want.

Both Karen and Jack are creatures of lust. Karen's constantly using booze, pills, and spending, while Jack's constantly acting out sexually.

These characters seem almost identical. Jack is a caricature of Karen. He's the gay male version of the straight spoiled girl who uses her looks and wits to get what she wants (see Joan Crawford in the Women).

In the episode where the characters go back in time to the 70s, Karen is
simultaneously having affairs with a sheik, Martina Navratilova, and her
husband to be, Stan. As she dances between partners in Studio 54 (except for
the ever concealed Stan) she tosses her long wavy hair and breaks up with
her various partners, never missing a disco beat.

Karen and Jack are equally dedicated to maintaining a fabulous, fashionable
and sexy appearance. The purpose is to connect and control. If they are
fabulous enough, they can attract fabulous friends. Also, they can control
these friends with their constant witty criticism. While Jack constantly
rags on Will for mythical weight that he‚s gained, Karen attacks Grace‚s
clothes and breasts.

Both K and J seem unfamiliar with feeling. Whereas Grace reflects to the point of paralysis, these two are all about surface dazzle. Thus they express their desire for connection in seeminglynasty ways such as constant criticism and ridicule.

Also, they present themselves as users: i'm so fabulous that i know that it's all about fabulousness. Life's a big game and i win cause i've got the best boobs/buns, quickest wit, best hair, so I can get people to give me the best stuff (for Karen: the life of a rich woman, for Jack, fabulous sexual
adventures with the cutest guys). Both are "kept" characters. Will helps
Jack, Stan pays for Karen. And both are nothing if not entitled.

does anyone have anything to contribute about subtypes?
