![]() A Beautiful Mind (2002) This movie seems to feature some good examples of character styles. John Nash wasn’t as extreme as the movie showed; especially in the 1990’s he behaved quite normal; but ok, its a movie and therefore some dramatization is needed to keep the big audience looking at the movie. The movie characters assessed: - John Nash >>> Idiosyncratic Style, the ‘weird, absorbed professor’ type, degenerating into schizophrenia and then slowly recovering again. Same as Millon’s Idiosyncratic Style (and Riso’s type 5w4) - William Packer >>> virtual role; embodies the paranoid side of schizophrenia, cold war-fighter; suspicious and vigilant; ‘attachments are dangerous’. Vigilant Style (Oldham), Paranoid Personality (Millon), type 6w5 (Riso) - Charles >>> lazy fence sitter-type, lounge-archetype fellow, Leisurely Style (Oldham), Millon’s negativistic style, type 9w8 - Martin >>> competitive, overtly ambitious student, status and goal focussed, winning is all for him. Self Confident Style (Oldham), Narcissistic Personality (Millon), type 3w2 - Marlee >>> child that is preoccupied with drawing the attention of John to her, doing and saying all kinds of things to get attention. Dramatic Style (Oldham), Histrionic Personality (Millon), type 4w3 or 2w3 (Riso) - Dr. Rosen >>> empathic helper, kind, caring man. Self Sacrificing Style (Oldham), Masochistic Personality (Millon), type 2w1 (Riso) - Alice >>> strong and assertive - even she hits someone when angry - woman, who fights to keep an impossible marriage working, even forcefully bending her image of John to the positive/healthy side, she’s stern but loving towards John. Agressive Style (Oldham), Sadistic Personality (Millon), type 8w7 (Riso) Jan
