: I need to prove myself to others, for fear of being ridiculed. The most effective way of preventing ridicule is showing that I catch the mistakes that the other person does not, and hence must be more skilled at whatever the mistakes are being made in than the other person. It's a silent cry for respect (and please don't make any wiseass comments about exactly how silent it is).
--I was a bit like that when I was younger. Then I realized it's exactly that kind of behaviour that makes someone suspectible for ridicule. People will start making fun of your need to be a smartass and more "clever" than others.
The surest and quickest way to get respect is to respect others. You're doing the opposite.
