Enneagram Type 4 Board Archive That's what always confused me the most about "New Age"...Posted by Tehuti on March 27, 2000 at 21:37:39: In Reply to: Position of Jesus. posted by Tiggy on March 27, 2000 at 18:45:11: New what? I first heard the term in high school when my religious friend said she didn't like "The Smurfs" because it advocated New Age beliefs and attitudes. I was thinking, "Huh? It's a cartoon about little blue elf guys in Medieval times. So there's wizardry and such. What's this about New Age?" *She* couldn't even explain to me what it meant. Only afterwards did I begin to figure out that "New Age" meant stuff like astrology, numerology, tarot, divination, spellcasting, etc...in short, all those nice things that have been around since, like, forever. The only thing "new" about the whole "movement" is that it's apparently experienced a resurgence of interest in recent times...but even then, if you look carefully enough, you'll see the interest has really been there all along. So much for "new"! ;) --T. PS--Yes, I found it absurd that my friend would feel threatened by the Smurfs; I think some people just need to find something to be afraid of, the way some people just like making enemies--but that's another post altogether. Everybody wait until I get in a bad mood and then I'll explain. <:)
