Enneagram Type 4 Board Archive Re: 'infant' 4's and 'mature' 4's :)Posted by Amanda :) on July 26, 2000 at 12:36:54: In Reply to: 'infant' 4's and 'mature' 4's :) posted by Kramer on July 26, 2000 at 07:22:04: Hi Kramer :) I don't think that what you had to say here was stupid in the least! In my experience, some of the most profound insights have come from people very new to the egram. I know people who have been into it for years and 'mis-used' it to justify unhealthy traits - or to employ it as a pop psychology gimmick to try to impress others - or to pigeon-hole people by type....all totally missing the point of the whole exercise. Having hung out here in fourdom for any length of time doesn't mean bat's dos when it comes to attaining any kind of maturity. It's very much up to each individual to take an opportunity like this to grow - or not - we each make our own choices. You are as qualified to give an opinion as I or any other kid in this little playground of ours - your observations are as valid as anyone else's - and (just for the record) you are as welcome as anyone else here. I don't know about anyone else, but I find it refreshing to find someone like you who is genuinely interested in understanding his type and willing to take an honest look at what's really going on - and why. I was interested to hear about your study exchange situation. The sorts of misgivings you have go hand-in-hand with being both a 4 and young. Don't let fear EVER stop you from achieving your goals - or anything else, for that matter. Seize the day, my friend! You are right when you say that your accent will make you stand out right away - I'm sure the Yanks will think it's terribly windswept and interesting - so you're a step ahead just by opening your mouth! Take it from this mature (read 'old') 4 when I say that you are young for just the blinking of an eye (even if it doesn't seem like it at the moment) - I mean, I was 18 only a minute ago - and you've had an opportunity of a lifetime Carpe Deum!
: I'm wondering whether the infant 4's, like me, can benefit some of the more developed 4's. What i mean is that i'm wondering if most of you ppl take stuff i have to say seriously. You see, most of you have been on this discussion board a LOT longer than i have, and in effect you have a lot more knowledge about 'Fourdom' than i do. Do you think someone like me can give quality advice to ppl like you? : hmm.. actually what i said sounds a bit stupid, but i don't think i'll delete it, it's just gonna sit at the back of my mind anyway whether i like it or not. I guess i'm just showing my insecurities a little too much here :)
