: I've read that fours are supposed to be sympathetic, good people to talk to when a person is going through a crisis. I, on the other hand, don't think of myself as a sympathetic person. I even remember, as a kid, getting angry at my sister when she cried, having no patience with her. I tend to feel like I have so many problems myself and like most other people don't take the time to be concerned with my problems, that I don't feel motivated to listen to other people's problems. And I definitely don't like listening to people talk about the problems their friends and family are dealing with--I find it depressing. Are there any other fours out there like this?

I feel that I'm a sympathetic person to a point. I rarely am so swamped with problems of my own that I don't have time to help someone else. Since my life is fairly steady and I tend to not have major mood swings, I believe I can generally offer an objective view of a situation without becoming wrapped up in it myself; a certain sense of detachment, if you will.

But, and there's always a but when you're dealing with others, I get frustrated when I see someone wallowing in self pity for an extended period of time. If there were nothing they could do to alleviate their suffering that would be one thing, but most people "choose" to remain mired in their slough of despond. Once I've decided that this is the case, I feel that I no longer have any part to play in helping them deal with their problems. If they *choose* melancholy, I *choose* the road.
