In Reply to: Another song... this time with meaning.... posted by Excalibur on October 26, 2000 at 08:05:54:
: I've written another song, this time with an instrument that i don't usually play. This one has a lot more meaning to it than those others i posted a little while back which were just 'tunes', although i don't claim it to be any good. : If anyone read my 'collection of thoughts' post further down, this is the song i wrote after writing that post. Anyway, if anyone is interested, follow the link below, and please tell me what you think, even if it is negative. : Thanks : oh yeah... and again, please read the notes :) Hi Excalibur I just listened to your piano piece... and I like it. At first it's kind of depressing, actually... very slow, and with the chord stricking very evenly and "march-like"... You said: "the lower rhythmic part is very repetitive... i would like more of a change to this..." But personally, i think it works as it is that way, because it "describes" your frustration, kind of feeling stuck in a state of mind, perhaps... The idea of taking one step further, but then one step backward... And a sense of resignation... BUT, then, the melody changes towards the end, and the music seems to get more hopeful, like seeing light at the end of the tunnel... and it's that change that moved me the most. And contrary to what you say in your description of the song, that you feel you don't deserve to be loved, well, the sense I get is that deep down, you know that you DO. But it's a matter of getting to that point, where you accept and believe that fact. And the "road" to that point is long and frustrating... Another thought in your description of the song that I feel is transmitted is: "I begin to realise I am very unstable, and unbearably sensitive to my surroundings". Anyhow, my first thoughts and impressions...! It really IS a beautiful melody and piece all-together. Congratulations :) And the fact that you've only played the piano for 2 days is impressive! It's hard to believe.. But you DO have an obvious musical talent :) heatherb
