After a class once somebody said to me, "I liked that story of yours in English class!" I looked at her briefly because, from what I could tell, she hadn't been the one who'd read my story, so how would she know if it was good or not?

So I just glanced at her to see who she was, then, deciding she must be poking at me, walked on with my head lowered. Looking really uncomfortable with myself and all.

I heard her say behind me, not even trying to lower her voice, "God, did you SEE that LOOK she gave me? What a SNOB!"

?
