I always chuckle when I hear "King of Pain" on like the supermarket radio or other middle-of-the-road musical outlet/station, since it is a much deeper and more philosophical song than most of that usual kind of fare. Most people are probably aware (and some are annoyed!) at my constant quoting of the great Australian band, the Church, but I find Steve Kilbey's (lead singer and lyricist) lyric's so Fourish it is almost painful sometimes. To wit (from the song "Paradox"): "You are a paradox to me, A senseless maze... I run around, I'm looking for you All of my days..." What Four can't relate to that? ;-) Other bands I like (which most people haven't heard of) with strong Four components to their lyrics...Lycia (deep, brooding ambient soundscapes with a whispering lost soul musing over life's agonies), Loreena McKennitt (a modern romantic poet in the truest sense of the tradition), Kate Bush (whose output over the last decade however is very sparse), and well, got to go to work so I'll continue this thread tonight!
