I was walking in a rain storm at about the same age but not carrying anythiing. The people in the car were a couple, the passenger being a woman. I didn't take the ride because my mom always told me not to take rides from strangers. I thanked them anyway. Then, I continued to walk home in the rain. I don't say anything to the guy buying the book but, yes, I do form opinions. 1) He's buying the book for a niece or younger sister as a mandate from his mother. 99 cents is a bargain and within his budget. 2) He's buying it as a joke to play on a friend (not the one laughing). 3) He has a fetish. The friend is laughing because he knows the real reason the book is being purchased and is assuming that you will assume he's buying the book for himself.
