I would be a different person if I had grown up in the suburbs rather than the country, but let's say my parent had moved there when I was 10. At that age I was kind of like Cole Sear in the Sixth Sense. If these had been senior citizens, I might have taken the ride (I used to have a real gift for charming little old ladies), but otherwise, no way. I would have been especially cautious around young men. My older brother made a hobby out of tormenting me at that age, so I steered clear of guys his age. It is not that I would have feared physical danger, but I would have expected some kind of taunting or embarrassment. I would have said, "No thanks," and quickly removed myself. 2. I think I probably would have been slightly amused, but maintained a poker face. Unless I'm shocked, angry, or talking, I'm always analyzing other people's motives and body language. I would have imagined that he was either buying it as a gag gift, because he liked looking at scantily-clad sassy Brit's, or maybe he was going to use it as an address book. You know, instead of a little black book, he would have a little posh book. On the other hand, I tend to get into a "fight or flight mode" pretty easily. That is, if I suspect that someone is having a joke at my expense, I get an adrenilin rush and get defensive in a hurry. If he and his friend were smirking at me, I might have blushed, averted my gaze, and hurried up their check out. I don't know why I would be embarrassed. Maybe because I would feel manipulated.
