I had a similar situation, except with a seven friend that I've been best friends with since age 6. No one could ever understand why I put up with her self-centered, attention-sucking ways for so very long...then I finally cut her out. I told her about eight months ago that our friendship was over, then didn't hear from her for a long while. She started calling again about three months ago, and foolishly, I've been talking to her. How do you get these people OUT for GOOD? I'm terrible at it.
