Enneagram Type 4 Board Archive hallucinations due to lack of sleepPosted by Mikko on November 30, 2000 at 12:28:57: In Reply to: Re: lucid dreaming posted by Susan on November 30, 2000 at 00:30:48: : In a college psychology class I remember learning that sleep deprivation can lead to hallucinations. It is sort of like if you don't dream everyday (whether you remember it or not) then your mind can't handle it and your need to dream sort of spills over into your waking life. Dreams are supposed to serve as some kind of outlet for the brain. It's good to know that you need to dream, lucid or not, for health. During a very strenous overnight drill in the Navy, I got less that an 1 of sleep during the night (and only 5 the night before). In the dark forest there was a large camp fire and quite a few people said later they imagined that there was on the front yard of a house. There was no house. The next day I 'saw' all kinds of buildings in the woods where there definitely weren't any. One combination of trees looked like a large church. When I talked about it with a buddy later, he told me he 'saw' buildings there too. The interesting thing was that we both knew they weren't real, that we were imaging something that wasn't there, yet they looked very real. I think it was in some way related to lucid dreaming, because we all were knackered there, I almost fell asleep on my feet.
