I do not pretend to be close to nirvana. I was just saying one of the reasons why I like to argue. I don't think that my reasons are especially enlightened - arguing is just fun for me. And note that I never actually said I WAS clever or original - that's just the way it makes me feel. I like feeling that way - who wouldn't?
That isn't they only reason I argue, though. Arguing is also a good way to figure things out. When people argue, if they do it rationally, they have to think about the other person's counters. People can learn a lot from arguing. Another reason I argue is, I like saying to people, "Hah! You're wrong!" I love the competition. I like to win. Even losing is OK, if it was a good argument. Maybe it stems from the fact that when I was real young, I think around 4-6, I discovered board games. I had a little booklet of board games, from checkers to backgammon to a really weird African game that involved moving the counters around tracks to capture. I also got a chess set. Anyway, I got really excited about these, but the rest of my family never wanted to play them. At that time, we did not have a computer, so I could not play online. That competitive spirit, repressed, turned to argument.
Why do YOU like to argue?
