It sounds like your suffering from what I call 'Prince Rilian Syndrome'. In C.S. Lewis's book 'The Silver Chair', Prince Rilian has been kept in the dark Underworld by enchantment where he thinks all there is is that world. Once every night the enchantment briefly wears off and he remembers Narnia and 'the sunlit lands'. He is confused as to which is reality. I feel like that when I'm depressed, like which is the real me.

It seems too simple to say when we're happy. The Prince became a nicer person when he remembered Narnia, so maybe it's when we're good, but who is to define that. I think it's something about when we don't put up defences, but you never know what might be a defence.

Any suggestions?
