: Second, dontbelieveaword about Riso's wing theory-while yes the majority of : the time your wing will be adjacent to the main type, it doesn't have to : be. I knew a guy who almost certainly was an 8w4-sensitive, eclectic, : brooding and introverted, but his core motivation was to control his loved : ones (which often caused him to push them away), so deep down he was an : Eight methinks. Also have known a 9w5 and some other weird combos... If I may disagree with you: this would be true if the Enneagram were a theory of behaviour, but it's actually a theory of inner motivation. For example, I'm a Five with two strongish wings (four and six). I behave like a Nine and score quite highly as a Nine on the test, but my motivation for avoiding conflict is quite different from what a Nine's would be. I avoid conflict to save energy, while a Nine does so in order to maintain connection. : For a Four, Five and Nine are highly compatible wings, Seven, Two and Six : less so, and 1,3 & 8 not really (tho you never know as I just indicated!). : Hope this helps! Fours and Fives are similar in that both focus their attention on something that is missing or in short supply; Fours and Threes are similar in that they pay attention to the image they are presenting. (Although the image that they present is very different.) As I understand it, although Fours and Nines may behave similarly, Nines focus on what is present and Fours on what is absent and so they are really complete opposites. Of course, this is all theoretical and you know more about Fours than I ever will. David
