I would suggest (P talk, or J if said snootily) that P talk is perhaps more appropriate for a board like this. Of course, if you were to make statements in a J style that's okay, but when you're dissecting what someones said it's nicer to go carefully. Thank you for introducing me to the concepts of j and p talk and explaining them. I have copied down the details for my files as I am very interested in language. They would also be useful for anyone writing about gender differences in language. I know (now) you are a female, but it's usually more the way some men speak and rarely women. i think you are a well intended person and it distresses me to see your grammar all shot to pieces as you are usually quite eloquent. Someone on another board was unsure about MY gender. I am female, but score right down the middle on androgyny tests. My bedroom looks like a mans - lots of pics. of sailing ships, a collection of pipes in an antique pipe-rack, a set of antique apothecary's scales in a glass case, a phrenology head and tons and tons of books. but my dressing table is very frivolous and theatrical - red feather boa hanging down and 1930's perfume bottles. I don't know why I thought you'd want to know all this, but I find it interesting. As Miss Piggy would say, 'Pretentious? Moi?' Tigs.
