Stick to Oldham, Cory. It has exactly what you're looking for: behavioral categories. I respect the empirical demands of your skeptical conscience. As for my bias, there are some things the mind can recognize that it cannot quantify. The instinct of intra-species communication is wired for this ability.

That, of course, is just faith, which I know you revile.
