Hello Neena,
There are, I believe, basically three ways to determine your type: testing, self-analysis, and analysis by others.
First, regarding testing: realize that author Riso admits that his test (RHETI) is only about 90% accurate at best (and this rate is probably better than most, if not all, other tests). Therefore, it is not unusual for a test to yield inconclusive results.
Secondly, regarding self-analysis: not everybody is ideally suited for cool, analytical self-observation. This is entirely normal for many types! Of course, eventually, some self-awareness will be desired in order to transcend the "myopia" that each type tends toward. But not everyone (not even all 4s) can be expected to "know thyself" inside-and-out from day one!
Thirdly, regarding analysis-by-others: you state that your friend helped you take the test. But you don't say whether your friend really understands the enneagram types. I bet, if someone who knew you personally, and also was familiar with the enneagram types, were to work with you, you probably would start to realize your type. In fact, your type might be so obvious to that person that (s)he would be hard pressed not to reveal it to you forthright!
As most of the regulars of these message boards would probably agree, it is quite certain that you do indeed have a type (everyone does); that there is nothing at all "freakish" about relating to many of the types at once (in fact, that in itself suggests a possible type, but I'm not giving details ;-) ); and that eventually, your type will become obvious to you.
The above being basically a dissertation, my suggestion to you is not to worry about typing yourself. Study the enneagram and you will quickly observe so many around you acting in type. In due time, you will come to observe yourself acting in type. That will be the point of self-discovery.
Hope this helps! (P.S. I'm a Five, with a Four-wing)

: What do I do when I can't even type myself? I did the test and read all I could find on all the numbers, and still I can't decide where I "belong". I mean, I can relate to almost all of them! I must be a multi personality freak of some sort!
: On the RHETI test I scored equally high on 4 -FOUR- numbers! (I even had a friend do the test together with me later to see if she knew me better than I did, but the test result was the same) Am I the only one who can't figure out my basic type?
: I'm F/29.

: Neena
